A well-loved, Merrythought King Charles Spaniel nightwear case with tummy label c.1950s. Called Spike, his limbs, tail and muzzle are woodwool-stuffed, while his head is soft-filled.
Spike has original amber glass eyes, with a black-embroidered nose, mouth and claws. His mouth has been re-sewn, and possibly his nose too. He measures 38cm (18″) long from nose to tail, and lies 15cm (6″) high to top of head. Spike’s paws are still sewn together, along with his chin resting on them, making him look extra cute.
Access to his storage compartment is via a silver metal zipper. It’s lined with pale green quilted fabric and shows some age staining. Spike’s black and white mohair is fairly sparse, especially to his back, with some bald areas too. Overall, though, he’s a very lovable dog, and wears a regal blue satin neck ribbon, hung with a King Charles III Coronation medal 6th May 2023.
