A fun-loving pair of athletic, Schuco clockwork tumbling mice – Basil & Bert – made of tinplate covered in velvet c.1920s/30s. They’re all original with a shared key-winder to set their mechanism in motion, and they continuously somersault head over heels, 360 degrees.
Basil is the mouse wearing red felt shorts with neck ribbon, whereas Bert also sports a waistcoat, which is why he’s grinning! Basil is slightly smaller at 9cm (3.5″) tall, and Bert 9.5cm high. The boys have felt ears with black-painted metal eyes, and a stitched nose with airbrushed brows and mouth. Their paws and feet are also covered in felt.
There’s a little wear to their velvet nap, most notably a bald patch to Bert’s left cheek. Generally, though, the mice are in reasonably good condition, and form a cute, entertaining double act.
