Musical Moritz Pappe SOLD

A fabulous, Moritz Pappe German teddy bear with a working Helvetic musical bellows squeeze box c.1920s/30s. Called Carly – a German name meaning strong, melody, song – she’s a large-scale 38cm (15″) tall, and is made of brown-tipped yellow mohair.  Her tipping has mostly faded but is still visible around her joints and inside ears.

Woodwool-stuffed, Carly has the most amazing, original amber glass eyes with painted backs, along with an embroidered nose and mouth, plus a full set of claws. In the past, her pads have been expertly recovered.

There’s some loss of fur here and there, and Carly’s front torso has paled to almost white, but the overall coverage is good. Carly’s joints work fine, and her bellows are strong and delightfully melodious. This gorgeous bear is wearing a handmade neck rufffle with a silk ribbon. Also, being a music lover, Carly travels with her souvenir Alpine cow bell.
