Lewie is a charming early Steiff bear, with tiny underscored ‘ff’ button sitting snug in his ear c.1908.  He’s all original, and measures 28cm (11″) tall.

Firmly woodwool-stuffed, Lewie has shoebutton eyes, with a black-embroidered nose and mouth, plus a full set of claws. His felt pads have a few small repairs, including a patch to the toe of his right foot. Generally, though, he’s a lovely sturdy ted, and his joints work fine.

Over time, Lewie’s gold mohair has faded a little, and shows overall thinning with bald areas. Even so, he’s in a lovely well-preserved condition, and poses beautifully. This wistful-faced bear wears the old sailor jacket he arrived in, and also sports a sweet antique photo pendant of a young sailor-dressed boy.
