Axel is a supremely handsome, early Steiff bear c.1910 (no button), with an elegant long-muzzle. He’s retained his original features, apart from a replaced footpad, and measures a large scale 33cm (13″) tall.

Mostly woodwool-stuffed, Axel has shoebutton eyes, with an embroidered nose, mouth, and claws – almost a full set! In the past, his felt pads have been neatly repaired with inserts, along with a small patch to the back of his right paw, which is a good match and blends in well.

The old boy’s gold mohair has faded a over time,  and there’s some loss around his muzzle, thinning to his forehead, and a bald area to the top of his head, as well as the backs of both paws.  Overall, though, Axel’s coverage is very impressive, and  his joints work fine.

This charming ted, is wearing his swanky brocade waistcoat, with a twill fabric neck scarf, pinned with a Daily Mail ‘Teddy Tail League’ badge from the 1930s.
