Casualty case!

In the past, this well-loved Chad Valley Toffee bear was the victim of a dog attack, who ravaged his poor little face and body. He was subsequently repaired, as far as possible, but still bears the scars of his ordeal.

Based on a 1950s character from the popular BBC radio children’s programme, ‘Listen with Mother‘, the stuffed toy version of Toffee was also made by Farnell.  Our Chad Toffee wears a replica of his  original, red knitted bob hat & scarf, with an extra knitted cardi given to him by current owner.

Woodwool-stuffed, Toffee’s amber glass eyes are original, along with his rexine pads, while his nose and mouth have been resewn. Typically, he’s 23cm (9″) tall, with a characteristic large domed head and short stocky body with dumpy limbs. There’s a worn out squeaker protruding from his portly tummy, but his joints work fine.

Toffee’s makeshift repairs are mostly to his face and ears, along with a large patch to the right side of his leg. Made of light brown mohair, the back of his head still has a respectable covering, while elsewhere only tufts remain. He also has a few threadbare areas.

Overall, he’s a unique character with bags of charm, and has made himself a plaque ‘Beware the Dog!’ to warn other teddy bears of the potential dangers of playful canines.
