Bernard moon-eyed Chad

An amazing, 26″ tall,  moon-eyed Chad Valley bear filled with cork chippings c.1920s. Bernard has the most adorable expression, and is all original except for his nose and mouth stitching, which have been resewn in the past.

Bernard’s fabulous ‘moon-eyes’ are made of glass, with orange painted backs and big black pupils.  All joints work fine, though his growler has more or less given up. Age comes to us all, even teddy bears, sigh.  Even so, although Bernard’s yellow-gold mohair  is a little faded at the front, and his legs are quite bald,  he remains a very furry bear. His shaved muzzle is a dark tan colour, but looks paler in our pics.

This charming gent wears his dapper check waistcoat with a wool tartan dicky bow, along with a watch brooch and vintage National Savings Long Service Medal. So, although he’s over a century old, we know Bernard is in for the long haul!

He travels with his delightful, fairly old limited edition pastel print featuring a Chad moon-eyed bear just like him. In fact he believes it is him, so has called himself Bernard. It no longer retains it’s carded mount, only the piece signed by the artist, Deidre Mackay Clark, and titled: ‘Jilly entertains Cousin Bernard’ 128/999 (number produced). This lovely keepsake will be rolled up for transit.
