An expressive, WW1 miniature Farnell soldier bear called Jimmy, with original features. He measures 8cm (3″) high, and is woodwool-stuffed. Jimmy’s head swivels, while his limbs are pin-jointed.
Made of faded gold mohair, Jimmy’s pipecleaner ears are intact, albeit only a tuft remains of the left one. His tiny back-painted glass eyes are now worn mostly clear, and he still has his cute upturned black nose, designed to look-out of a soldier’s breast pocket. There’s a little wear to Jimmy’s left paw and both feet, on the whole though he’s a sprightly little ted, and ever so cute.
This darling lucky mascot wears his handmade felt ‘uniform’, which he believes was a special issue for teddy bears who may have been heading to the Front Line. We’ll never know if Jimmy was one of them, but he’s a poignant reminder of all all those who bravely went into battle.
With Remembrance (Armastice) Day on the horizon on 11th November, Jimmy’s Royal British Legion badge is urging everyone to ‘Wear a Poppy on Anzac Day’.
(Jimmy’s uniform made his complexion look darker than it actually is, so his undressed photos show a closer match to his colour).
