This lovable, brown mohair Steiff Teddy Baby still wears his original red leather collar, now quite surface-worn.  First introduced in the 1920s, he’s missing his earbutton, but is most likely one of the later 1950s versions. Baby stands 23cm (9″) high, on flat carded feet, and is woodwool-stuffed.

His features are original, with back-painted amber glass eyes, and a black-embroidered nose. Baby’s open mouth is lined with peach felt, to match his downturned paws and feet – they’ve been partly patched where his carded soles had worn through.

Typically, Baby features a separate close-cropped white plush muzzle, also used on the top of his feet. And all his black claws appear to be intact, though hidden by his fur on his right paw. There’s a worn-out squeaker in Baby’s tummy, but all his joints work fine. Overall, he’s retained most of  his gorgeous mohair, with minimal loss, so is in very good condition.

Wearing a handknitted waistcoat, with a replaced bell to his collar, Baby is an adorable cub, with a cute gawky stance.
