This dearly-loved, small WJ Terry bear dates to c.1915. and is woodwool-stuffed. Annie stands 30cm (12″) tall on card-lined feet, and  has a replaced back-painted glass eye that’s slightly more bulbous than the original one on her right, which shows some loss of enamel.

Annie only has tufts of gold mohair remaining, along with a few threads of nose stitching, while her pads are very worn old cloth replacements – with her paws being completely encased.  There’s a few other repairs, including a patch to her muzzle, a couple of darns to her torso (close to her non-working squeaker), and some stitches to the inside seams of her legs, along with the fronts.

On the plus side, Annie’s joints work OK – legs are a bit swingy, and her neck and arm a little stiff. Also, the stuffing has settled in her left ankle making it floppy, and both ears have been re-attached.

Nevertheless, Annie is a sweetly-appealing character, and wears her pretty cotton print dress, pinned with a King Charles III Coronation badge 6th May 2023. She also travels with a little knitted bag, and paper Union Jack flag.
