Many moons ago, Winnie underwent a degree of restoration. Her woodwool stuffing was topped up with soft filling, and her left foot completely remade. It’s lined with a thin carded insole and finished with a set of brown claws.
Her right cardlined foot has original black claws to match her nose and partial mouth stitching, both of which have faded over the years. The worn away mouth stitch was resewn in brown thread.
Winnie’s other three pads were re-covered in the same material as her new left foot, along with a patched repair to her right ankle. Her ears too were re-attached – as you might suppose her earbutton is long gone. We’ve no idea who carried out Winnie’s repairs, but they’re very neatly done.
Her joints all work fine, and her head tilts engagingly to one side, due to the softness of her topped up stuffing. Overall, Winnie is an incredibly sturdy bear with a great long muzzle, and the sweetest expression. Mostly bald, she’s definitely a unique and truly lovable character, and a weighty ted to boot.
Winnie is dressed in her antique cream wool embroidered coat, pinned with a vintage marcasite brooch, plus velvet neck ribbon. She also carries her handmade tapestry-velvet bag.
