A beautiful, early blonde Steiff bear with the loveliest face, Bertl retains his earbutton c.1908. He stands 33 cms (13″) high, though looks larger, and is all original except for old replaced paw pads.

Having kept much of his blonde mohair, Bertl is an impressive ted, with a lovely elongated muzzle and charismatic smile. He’s dressed in his cute German-made outfit, including  a Steiff scarf, plus a very old toy fob watch and chain.

My name is German meaning ‘famous for nobility’.  I guess being a Steiff makes me something of a celebrity, and as I was made in the first few early years, it might also make me noble!

But at the end of the day I’m just an old bear in need of a new home.

Character info

Early Steiff Bertl is stuffed with woodwool, and is all original except for old replaced ‘wash-leather’ paw pads. He has shoebutton eyes and embroidered features, and most of his claws are still intact.

Bertl’s felt foot pads are in good condition with only two small patched repairs, and a few pinprick holes. His growler no longer works, but his joints are sound. Nestling deep in his left ear is Bertl’s Steiff button, concealed by his fur.

This sweet-faced ted has an impressive amount of blonde mohair, and is a good sturdy old boy. His only bodily repair is a few tiny, almost invisible, stitches to the back of one leg. Also, there’s a little settlement of stuffing in the tops of his arms. Overall,  though, Bertl is an antique treasure, wearing his cute German outfit.
